Australia Day - 26th January 2011

Another Australia Day and with it a new "Australian of the Year".

We should also remember the thousand of Aussies who also put themselves second when helping others - the ones who never get recognition.

For instance, a dear friend of ours who, despite being ill (she never tells us how ill she really is, but we can tell!) has put so much time and effort into helping others that a government department has stopped her Pension. Blind bureaucratic stupidity - did the person who did that not realise how much Australia owes to volunteers? Apparently not.

What a lucky country, indeed!

More Water - Jan 25th 2011

Speaking about water...

THE state's future swim stars will be banished from training at Adelaide Aquatic Centre, a city Councillor says. (The Advertiser/AdelaideNow)

Why the hell do these people always want to interfere with things that work? Instead of: A - allowing the divers to continue to use the pool; or B - upgrading their facilities; they're told, 'Too bad, you'll have to travel kilometres more to train.'

Perhaps if the good Councillor was a diver, this wouldn't have happened?

Water - January 18th 2011

This State Government is the limit! They've floated the idea that they will tax farmers for the RAINWATER they store on their properties! The short-sighted, mealy-mouth, money-grubbing mongrels. As one farmer put it, would the Government pay him rental on the dam and pumping equipment he put in?
I remember a year or two ago, this same Government wanted to tax home-owners on the amount of rainwater they had in their rainwater tanks.

Words almost fail me.

Politics - January 17th 2011

There's nothing quite so edifying as watching a political party self-destructing. Especially when it gained government by the Preferential System which locked out its opposition, even though that opposition garnered 52% of the vote.

Our Treasurer has often been heard to say that he will go when the time is right. Apparently he hasn't noted that the majority of people in South Australia are heartily sick of his arrogance or his "poor little me" items in the media.
As Oliver Cromwell (I think) said, "In God's name go!"

January 11th 2011

Here we go again - a new year and already our State Treasurer is bleating about how hard done by he is. Try living on the aged pension, Mr. Foley, and see how you manage.
